LOVOLUTION YOGA FOR SACRED ACTIVISM

Lovolution: The evolution of revolution; non-violent social movement for individual freedom and global economic justice; fusion of erotic energies as a foundation for building of a network of arcologies (ecological cities) on Earth and in Outer Space; the self-organizing power of love.

As activists, why do Yoga?

1. Yoga not only unifies the different parts of the human body to work in more alignment and harmony, but when we practice yoga together, it unifies people through breath awareness and shared meditation experiences.

2. Yoga teaches us how to overcome addiction, greed, narcissism, vanity, depression, heartache, loneliness, codependency, and other mental afflictions that block cooperation, cohesion, and the ability to discover one’s unique role in society by finding the sacred core of life.

3. Yoga tones the body and stretches the body to reach one’s physical and emotional edge. This edge is a metaphor for what activists do outside of a yoga practice to grow the edge of society by struggling against all forms of self and social oppression.

4. To achieve our intention of shifting the paradigm away from the destructive fossil fuel age towards a creative Solar Century, we need concentration. Building a strategy with broad-based social appeal is critical to our Lovolutionary Project of making the world a better place for all sentient beings. Yoga gives us a personal technique to achieve such a positive collective intention.

5. Yoga asanas such as the warrior poses (Virabhadrasana 1, 2, 3) guide us to become an inner warrioress, distinct from an outer warrior, such as the US military and private mercenary armies. Becoming a love warrior means finding moral strength within oneself rather than resorting to physical force that kills an external enemy. The use of violence leads to nationalist resource wars that could escalate into nuclear confrontation. Yoga teaches us the power beyond duality, helping us discover that we are a one-world family.

6. Yoga initiates us into transcendent time/space and connects us with universal science and cosmic love. Such connection helps us understand the continuum of life. It clears out centuries of social conditioning, brainwashing, and negative habits that inhibit our ability to embrace our authentic selves.

7. Yoga fosters a sense of equality, as we all breathe the same air and share a planetary environment. Therefore, yoga allows us to see the need for planetary justice and to take personal responsibility for the well-being of future generations.

8. Yoga gives us the flexibility to adapt to global climate change. Such flexibility for radical change is necessary for our survival. Yoga provides us with the skills to let go of unnecessary thought patterns, trivial worries, and obsolete stories so that we can move forward in developing a new, sustainable civilization.

9. Yoga offers us the knowledge of how to remain calm while surrounded by chaos, such as police-state brutality and traffic.

10. Learning yoga gives us something positive to do if we are incarcerated and an art of emancipation in which we can teach to other prisoners.

11. Lovolution Yoga is an evolving sangha (group or assembly).  It’s a place where intuitive insights arise to guide society to a greater wholeness.

12. In Lovolution Yoga, the guru is you, the inner healer who is the directress of one’s internal dialogue and external actions.
