Cosmic cloud surrounded by stars

Time

Time is a good thing.

Time to put out the fires,

to clean up after the floods,

to rebuild after the hurricanes,

earthquakes, and tornadoes.

Time to raise a new generation

of children to grow brave and strong.

Time is a good thing as we grow old,

time to prepare to move from life to corpse.

But there is a point of no return—

The tipping point of no more time

to do anything to save us from

the consequences of extreme weather events

when houses no longer shelter us from the elements.

It’s too hot to power the air conditioning

on the national energy grid,

blackouts and heat deaths kill time.

Out of time to stop the petrodollar and its

fossil fuel class structure destroying our atmosphere.

Today the fires rage and the floods rise beyond their banks,

The violence of nature teaches us

about the planetary force in control

when time is no longer money.

As we step deeper into extinction,

we’ve lost track of time, living on borrowed time.

The window of opportunity to begin to act wisely--

in the nick of time-- is closing in on humanity.

We’ve had too much time on our hands, and we did nothing.
