Dear William McDonough and Michael Braungart:

I read your book Cradle to Cradle with great enthusiasm for what you are doing to create “the next industrial revolution.” Your vision of how to bring about a world of ecoeffectiveness is inspiring and beautiful. There is a beauty associated with truth that I see in your work.

I, too, have been working to articulating an ecological vision. Working with Italian architect Paolo Soleri in 1999-2000 at Arcosanti, I fell in love with the possibility of creating evolutionary architecture, what he calls arcology.

Since that time, I have been incorporating the ideas of futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard, author of Conscious Evolution into the arcology model in hopes of discovering a liberating social architecture. But your work, creating a new industrial model, really completes for me the theory of arcology.

I’ve read that you are working with the Chinese government to build seven new sustainable cities. My greatest dream is to help you accomplish your revolution. Maybe some of my insights into arcology can help you with this magnanimous task. You write, “Commit to a new paradigm, rather than to an incremental improvement of the old…. The intention is not to be slightly more efficient, to improve on the old model, but to change the framework itself.” My work into arcology reveals that we are on the verge of shifting to a new archetype in architecture.

I have a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. My dissertation was about this radical change in architecture. I’ve created a PowerPoint slide show on these ideas, which I would like to share with you if you are interested in seeing a hard copy of it. Perhaps after viewing it, you could see if my work complements your work and if I could help your design/science revolution in anyway. A dream vocation for me would be to educate the public about what you are doing, informing them on progress on the Chinese cities.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Libby Hubbard aka Doctress Neutopia
